Description

Please note that the first item to install is the crash bars and the second is the engine guards. Some installation steps of the crash bars and engine guards merge.

Crash Bars

One of the biggest advantages of our crash bars system is the all around 27mm diameter tubing that rests on 5mm thick steel mounting tabs and offers reliable protection for fairing, radiator, engine case and other parts of the engine.

  • Quality 27mm/1.06″ steel tube with 2mm wall thickness – any low quality steel tubing BELOW THESE SPECS will be crushed when your 450lbs+ bike crashes into the ground. Our guards are designed to take the beat!
  • One of the biggest advantages of our crash bars system is the all around 27mm diameter tubing that rests on 4 and 5mm thick steel mounting tabs and offers reliable protection for fairing, radiator.
  • Hand MIG welded – It’s all about the strength! We continue to follow our philosophy: toughness and functionality over appearance.
  • Less is often more. The design is based on the philosophy that less is often more, hence we created a compact, sturdy set of crash bars that do not reach far away from its mounting points. This system perfectly complements the sporty, aggressive lines of the CRF1000L Africa Twin.
  • Powder coated – combined with sandblasting it’s a killer combination to protect your product’s surface. No frills and tough just like your ADV/Dual Sport bike!

Compatibility:

Crash bars: 2016 / 2017 / 2018 / 2019 standard and 2018 / 2019 Adventure Sports models. One crash bars for all models.

Engine Guards

One of the first things that gets exposed to potential damage in the event of a crash is your Honda CRF1000L’s engine (case). Right off the bat, you can see that it’s more than just an engine guard.

Overall:

  • Engine Case Protection – entirely frame mounted, thus the fragile engine is not exposed to forces transferred to it due to crash impact
  • Crash Bars Reinforcement – the engine guard is tied into the crash bars through a reinforcement bar.
  • 27mm diameter tubing – handles the weight of the bike under impact (crash).
  • Sandblasted and powder coated surface – simple and tough coating that lasts.

Compatibility:

Engine Case Guard: 2016 / 2017 / 2018 / 2019 standard and 2018 / 2019 Adventure Sports. One engine guards for all models. Only specify transmission type (DCT or Manual) on webpage. NOT compatible with DCT foot shifter pedal.

Compatible with both Standard and Adventure Sports original skid plates ONLY after performing these minor modifications.

Please note: We do not guarantee compatibility with any aftermarket exhaust header/manifold due to the different shapes and designs carried out by dozens of exhaust manufacturer companies. At the moment, we only guarantee fitment with original Honda CRF1000L standard and Adventure Sports exhaust header/manifold. Thank you for your understanding.

Honda AT Crash Guard was touching engine casing on the right end near the brake pedal but after speaking with Lorry, we were able to find a fix (washer). In any case, I am happy about this purchase, the Crash Guards are well made and feel sturdy. I hope I will never find out how sturdy but would definitely recommend!

Great quality product that not only does an incredible job of protecting the bike, but because of its design, pairs really well, compared to the competition. Also, amazing customer service.

Other than having to slightly hog out a hole in the right rear engine guard mount (and the installation learning curve), all things went well. Also just installed the skid plate. I needed to run a tap through the right front mounting point but that was no problem. Overall their products are excellent and I am more than pleased with Mark Carrera’s efficient and courteous service.

Great crash bars, fit the Africa Twin without any issues. Bars seem really sturdy. Only issue I had was with the hardware. Some was missing and most of it is starting to rust after just a couple months.
Other than that, very happy with these bars.

They work great. but have to remove the mid section to get battery out. Unless there is something I don’t know?

I used to be a motorcycle mechanic, and part of my job was installing accessories to include accessories marketed as “factory” and “genuine.” Most of the stuff needed a lot of muscle or modification to fit. I also installed a lot of crashbars (albeit mainly on cruisers, adv bikes weren’t “a thing” back then) which almost NEVER fit properly out of the box. Now I’m not claiming to be an expert, nor am I claiming that I got these bars installed in thirty minutes…took every bit of three hours. What I AM saying is that these bars did take some effort to install, but they are the first I remember that didn’t require me to “hog out” some of the mounting holes and/or bend a tab or three (or all). I am just amazed at the obvious build quality of these bars, and the fact that they are mass produced at this level is mind boggling! As I mentioned, they took effort to install…quite a bit…but any problems I had were created by: ME. I tried to cut corners and install the bars as I watched the instructional video…MISTAKE. Had I watched the video all the way through BEFORE tackling this job, it most definitely would have gone smoother. So…watch the video first, then start installation, leave all the bolts loose. Something else I suggest: tap out the 4 threaded holes with an 8mm X 1.25 thread tap. There are two at the end of the left side crash bar, where it fits under the from spar and two on the lower rear-most bracket on the right side engine guard. Tapping the threads to clean them out (especially the left side holes) will definitely make it easier to start the bolts by hand. Excess powder coat can really seize-up and strip bolt threads! Anyway, loose bolts: start by tightening the largest bolts first and work your way down to the smallest bolts, and you’re done! These bars look great and feel rock solid. Thanks Outback Motortek!!!

Like the product..seems sturdy enough….only problem it sets directly on the oil transfer tube that goes to transmission. If bike falls on that side it may cause damage.

Thanks for your feedback. No, there will never be any damage. Our Africa Twin 1000 products have been out there for 4 years and not one of the thousands of customers reported anything negative back regarding the close proximity to the oil transfer tube.

They are the best option on the market, I would like an add-on piece that bridged the engine case on the right side. Rocky trails are an issue in Arizona and can stickup farther than the lower engine bars.

They preformed exceptionally well, they protected my bike from damage through several drops on my first off-road excursion.

Excellent quality, look great and helpful installation instructions. Be sure to watch the video as well as reading the provided instructions. If you are at least moderately competent with hand tools and take your time, it’s not too challenging. The only slight modification I needed to make was using a Dremel to grind a small notch in the factory skid plate to clear the lower left bar once the bar was bolted in place. My bike is the 2017 AT 1000L (manual of course!).
